Taylor Swift’s Dad Cleared of Charges in Paparazzi Altercation

Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Swift, will not face charges for an alleged altercation with a paparazzi photographer in Sydney, Australia earlier this year.

The incident occurred in February when Swift was performing her “Eras Tour” stops in Melbourne, Australia. According to RTÉ, photographer Ben McDonald was trying to snap pics of Swift, but had an umbrella “shoved in his face to prevent a photo from being taken” as the pop star and her entourage walked down a jetty to their vehicle. McDonald alleged that Scott then confronted him and “took it further.”

After the incident, McDonald filed a complaint with the Australian police, who opened the investigation that has now been closed. In a new statement, police acknowledged that they had “conducted” the investigation, and “no further police action” would be taken.

When reports of the incident first surfaced, it was said that Scott charged at and knocked McDonald to the ground (though the photographer walked away without requiring medical treatment). A statement Swift’s team shared with People, though, alleges that “Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”

Swift’s dates in Melbourne were followed by runs in Sydney and Singapore. In May, the “Eras Tour” will start up again in France, followed by European and North American legs. Check out Swift’s upcoming tour dates, and grab tickets here.
