Sheryl Crow Says Albums Are “Waste of Time and Money”

Sheryl Crow still believes albums are “a waste of time and money” despite being on the verge of releasing her new studio album, Evolution.

The musician revealed her opinion in a recent interview with Red magazine (via Exclaim!) after being asked why she was releasing a new album after previously stating 2019’s Threads would be her last.

“I still think it’s a waste of time and money!” Crow said, before pointing to changing listening habits due to streaming. “People don’t listen to records as a full body of work, but I had all these songs that felt very timely.”

She continued by differentiating Evolution from a typical studio release: “So, I thought, ‘Okay, I’m not going to make a conventional album, thinking about the beginning, middle, and end.’ Instead, it’s a compilation of new songs.”

To that end, Evolution is a tidy nine tracks, and Crow has unveiled three singles in advance of its release this Friday: “Alarm Clock,” “Evolution,” and a cover of “Digging in the Dirt” featuring vocals from Peter Gabriel himself.

Earlier this month, Crow was a surprise guest at the Nashville stop of Olivia Rodrigo’s “GUTS World Tour,” where they performed “If It Makes You Happy” together. This summer, Crow will support Evolution with her own tour of the UK and Europe before joining P!NK’s “Summer Carnival Tour.” Grab your seats for North American dates here and international shows here.
