Porno for Pyros Play Farewell Show in Port Chester: Photos

Porno for Pyros just wrapped up their “Horns, Thorns, En Halos Farewell Tour” with a final show on Sunday night (March 11th) in Montclair, New Jersey. Heavy Consequence was on hand a few nights earlier (March 7th) at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, to witness one of the band’s last gigs ever.

The North American outing was both a reunion trek and farewell jaunt, as Porno for Pyros had not embarked on a proper tour in more than 25 years. After reuniting to play a few festival dates and club gigs in 2022, singer Perry Farrell and company decided to hit the road one last time for this winter 2024 tour.

Upon taking the stage, Porno for Pyros kicked things off with their biggest hit, “Pets,” for the first time all tour. However, Farrell and the rest of the band — drummer Stephen Perkins, guitarist Peter DiStefano, bassist Mike Watt, keyboardist Robin Hatch, and backup singer Etty Lau Farrell (Perry’s wife) — only offered a taste of “Pets,” playing about a minute and a half of the song.

From there the setlist focus mainly on the band’s 1993 self-titled debut, including “Sadness,” “Cursed Female” / “Cursed Male,” “Blood Rag,” and others, as well as a handful of tracks from 1996 sophomore effort Good’s God Urge, including “Wishing Well” and “Tahitian Moon,” among others. Porno for Pyros also played their two new songs — “Agua” and “Little Me,” plus a cover of the Iggy & The Stooges classic “I Got a Right.”

For fans who thought they may have gotten cheated out of a full performance of “Pets,” the band reprised the song with an extended version to close the show.

While Farrell may no longer have the vocal range of his early Jane’s Addiction days, he remains the consummate frontman. The singer grew up in Queens and Long Island, and talked enthusiastically about his New York roots throughout the night. Perhaps a bit tipsy off some fine wine or just playing up an old-school “New Yawk” vibe, the singer playfully ranted about fighting people in the street; claimed his sports fandom rides or dies with the Jets, Mets, and Knicks; and generally looked like he was having a good ol’ time.

As for Porno for Pyros’ decision to both reunite and say farewell, Farrell told us late last year, “I’ve got Porno for Pyros, I’ve got Jane’s Addiction, got Lollapalooza. So, I’ve got all these beautiful things … you can call them drips, or, like an octopus got an arm, all these things are kind of like my arms. With Porno for Pyros, what I can see for in my life – put out these three songs, do this tour.”
