Man Arrested After Climbing Las Vegas Sphere Ahead of Super Bowl

A man has been arrested and is now facing charges of destruction of property after climbing to the top of the Sphere in Las Vegas, FOX5 reports.

The world’s biggest spherical structure, the $2.3 billion Sphere stands 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department called the man’s actions a “publicity stunt” ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, which is taking place at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

“We know these things are going to happen, and we’re going to deal with them as they come up and make sure we have the safest Super Bowl we’ve ever had,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill said in press conference.

Police identified the man as Maison DesChamps, a Las Vegas local who was previously arrested for scaling the ARIA Resort & Casino in August 2021. The activist, 24, was reportedly carrying out the stunt to raise awareness for the pro-life non-profit organization Let Them Live.

“While half a million football fans arrive in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII, DesChamps wants to shake the public into caring about the fate of unborn children in our country,” reads a press release issued by the nonprofit.

DesChamps ultimately shared footage of the stunt on his Instagram page, which you can watch below. He is currently jailed at the Clark County Detention Center and scheduled to appear in a Las Vegas court today, February 8th.
